The Dragons are delighted to announce the return of Laurent Frayssinous as Assistant Coach from the 2027 season.
The 49-year-old, who is currently Head Coach of the France national team, has signed a two-year deal with the club.
A former France international, Frayssinous joined the Dragons for their inaugural Super League season in 2006 before moving into the club’s coaching staff in 2007 following the end of his playing career.
He served as Assistant Coach until the end of the 2012 season, working under Mick Potter, Kevin Walters and Trent Robinson, before becoming the first French coach to take charge of a Super League team in 2013.
Since leaving the club in 2017, Laurent Frayssinous has further developed his experience through a number of roles at the highest level. He notably joined the coaching staff at St Helens before taking charge of the France national team in 2021.
His appointment marks the return of a coach who knows the club inside out and who will bring his experience, knowledge of the highest level and expertise to John Cartwright’s coaching staff.
He will retain his position as Head Coach of the France national team alongside his role as Assistant Coach at the Catalans Dragons. Through this arrangement, the club reaffirms its commitment to actively contributing to the development and performance of French Rugby League by strengthening the links between the highest level of the club game and the national team. The club will fully support Laurent Frayssinous in combining both roles and continuing, alongside the French Rugby League Federation, the work undertaken with the France national team over the last years.

I’m very happy and proud to be returning to the Catalans Dragons and to have committed to the club for the next two seasons as Assistant Coach.
This club holds a special place in my career. I have already had the privilege of representing the Dragons as a player, Assistant Coach and Head Coach, and to return today, with all the experiences I have had and everything I have learned since leaving, naturally has a very special meaning for me.
The discussions I had with Sébastien Munoz, Ben Garcia and Bernard Guasch about the project they want to put in place were particularly convincing. Their vision, their ambition for the club and the direction they want to take it were key factors in my decision to be part of this new chapter.
I’m also very pleased to be able to continue my role as Head Coach of the France national team alongside my position with the Dragons. I have a deep attachment to this team, this jersey and the project we are building together, and I still have huge ambition and desire for what lies ahead. I would like to thank Dominique Baloup, President of the French Rugby League Federation, for his trust and support, and for allowing me to continue my work with the France national team while joining the Catalans Dragons.
I know the standards expected at the Dragons, the club’s environment, its history and the expectations that come with representing this club. I’m extremely grateful for the trust that has been placed in me and particularly motivated by the opportunity to put my experience, energy and skills at the service of the coaching staff, the players and the project.
I return with great ambition and enthusiasm, with one very clear priority: to work hard, contribute to the collective effort and do everything I can to help the Dragons achieve their objectives.
Both the Dragons and the France national team hold a special place in my career. I’m proud to be able to continue my commitment to both projects and, more broadly, to French Rugby League.
